Video: Kindergarten Bootcamp
I love the b-roll in this vid — dunking your cheese fish crackers in your chocolate milk and somehow getting your entire hand inside your mouth to deliver the soggy cracker. Love it. Put kids and food together and you just can’t miss.
This piece was during my summer 2007 internship for McClatchy’s Fresno Bee inside the Interactive Media department.
The video was to correspond with a print piece that was completed, along with stills, by the time I received the assignment. Why newsroom departments don’t talk to each other better (print, photo and video) is evidence of how new the idea of multimedia is I think.
My instructions were to show up at the school, shoot what I needed, return to the newsroom, edit and have it ready to post the following morning.
About two hours of shooting on location and a few hours of editing and the piece was turned around in less than a day. Not the schedule I would prefer to work on, but it worked this time.
