Los Angeles Times Photojournalist Robert Gauthier returned to California State University, Fresno recently.
Gauthier earned his B.A. in Journalism from Fresno State in 1983 and has worked his way up the newspaper ranks in SoCal since.
Some of Gauthier’s awards as per the LATimes site:
• Los Angeles Times Editorial Awards for Investigative Reporting “Failure to Provide: Los Angeles County’s Child Support Crisis” and related stories, 1998.
• Society of Professional Journalist, Sigma Delta Chi Award for Photography, 1993.
• National Press Assn., Pictures of they Year Award, second place, pictorial, 1992.
• California Newspaper Publishers Assn., 1989 and 1992.
• Pro Football Hall of Fame, second place, action, 1991.
• National Football League Hall of Fame, 1989.
Hey Robert, didn’t you win a Pulitzer? Why hasn’t the Times posted this award on your bio page?

PRINT REPORTER: Hey Joe. We have a young lady coming into the newsroom in about an hour so a photog can get some pictures of her in the studio. Can you do something with video when she comes in?
ME: Uh, yeah I guess I could (thinking I have no idea what the story is, who this person is that’s coming in or what type of video would be best, let alone what the basic 5-Ws and H would be).
REPORTER: Great. I’ll bring her into the video studio as soon as she’s done in the photo studio.
So, to make a long story short, this is as creative as I could get in a blank white studio with no lights on short notice with little understanding of the subject.
This is ONE camera, FOUR takes of the same monologue and a LOT of editing. Everyone loved it.
